Meenakshi J is a freelance journalist and science writer. Her work has been published in BBC Travel, The Guardian, and other publications. She also runs a travel and lifestyle blog named PolkaJunction.


Meenakshi J worked as a technical mentor in the corporate sector for a few years before joining her military family. Later, she worked as a junior lecturer in the Himalayan town of Dalhousie. It was here in 2016 that she started her blog, PolkaJunction. The blog soon garnered top awards in many Indian contests. Meenakshi plunged into full-time freelance journalism and reporting in 2018. Her worked has appeared in BBC Travel, The Guardian, Smithsonian Magazine, Atlas Obscura, Whetstone Magazine, South China Morning Post, The National UAE, National Geographic U.K. and India, Travel and Leisure India, Architectural Digest India, and many other publications. 


Meenakshi has a master’s degree in English and a graduate degree in microbiology, biochemistry, chemistry, and science education. She also holds a postgraduate diploma in teaching English, and a Certificate in English Language Teaching to Adults (CELTA) from Cambridge University.
