Bottom Line

The MacSports Outdoor Utility Wagon is an easy and inexpensive way to transport your gear to the beach this summer. It may not be the smoothest ride over the sand, but it carries the essentials without any assembly required. The foldable design makes this wagon ideal for storage in small spaces, too.

Taking a toddler to the beach isn’t the easiest. You need to be prepared for everything and anything, which means packing lots of gear and lugging it all from the car or summer house to your spot on the sand.

That’s where wagons like the MacSports Outdoor Utility Wagon come in. My family and I tested the foldable, four-wheeled beach wagon during a trip to Montauk to see how many items it could haul—and how well it could handle sand and other terrains. Read on to see what I thought!

Setup Process: No assembly required!

The fact that there is literally no assembly necessary to use this beach wagon is a major plus in my book! After taking it out of the box, you simply remove the cover and push the wagon down to unfold. The wheels and handle are already attached, so we were ready to go in seconds. And once we got back from the beach and unpacked all our gear, all we had to do was pull up on the tab in the middle of the wagon to fold it back up and then slip on the cover to store away.

It only took a few minutes to load the wagon, and we were able to fit everything we needed for a day at the beach.

Design: A simple design, but built to last

This wagon has a very straightforward design, but the frame and fabric are clearly up to the challenge of many trips to the beach. I loved that the durable 600 denier polyester fabric is UV- and mildew-resistant and can be easily spot cleaned.

I liked that the handle locked into place when not being used, so I didn’t have to lay it on the ground.

The heavy-duty frame can hold up to 150 pounds, and the inside measures 32 x 20.1 x 17.4 inches, so it can really hold a nice amount of gear. The adjustable handle was a plus. I also appreciated the two mesh cup holders and the fact that the wagon could be easily folded and placed in a carry case when not in use.

Performance: A little tough to pull over sand, but gets the job done

It only took a few minutes to load the wagon, and we were able to fit everything we needed for a day at the beach: two folding beach chairs, a beach umbrella, toys, and a small cooler. After we finished loading and got to the beach, I walked the packed wagon from our beach house to the sand (about a five-minute walk). It rolled really easily down the street, around corners, and down the wooden path to the beach.

It was a bit of a struggle for me to pull the wagon across the somewhat rocky sand. But it did store everything we needed (more on that later)—and it was much better than carrying everything. I liked that the handle locked into place when not being used, so I didn’t have to lay it on the ground. This is definitely a key feature when kids are running around playing on the sand!

Price: An inexpensive game changer when going to the beach

Available for right around $70, this is one of the more inexpensive beach wagons on the market. Typically, wagons range from around $65-$150. For how much use you can get out of it (not only for the beach but also for the park, the kids’ baseball games, running errands, etc.), I think this is definitely a great buy.

MacSports Outdoor Utility Wagon vs. GLCHQ Heavy Duty Collapsible Folding Wagon Cart

When checking out other inexpensive wagons, I came across the GLCHQ Heavy Duty Collapsible Folding Wagon Cart, currently available for around $60. It’s pretty similar in that the wagon has two bottle holders, foldable design, and the same weight limit. The one big difference is that you have to assemble the GLCHQ model. The MacSports model costs only a few more dollars and requires no assembly.

A must-have for summer activities.

The MAC Sports Outdoor Utility Wagon is an expensive and easy way to lug all of your beach gear this summer. There is no assembly required, and it folds up easily for storage when not in use. It may not be the smoothest ride through the sand, but it’s way better than making multiple trips from the car to the beach.
