Lots to Do at Lush Aquatica San Diego

SeaWorld's California Water Park

SeaWorld Parks & Entertainment

Like the other two water parks that bear the same name, Aquatica at SeaWorld Orlando, and Aquatica at SeaWorld San Antonio, Aquatica San Diego is not your typical water park. It is lushly themed and landscaped. And, because it is operated by the SeaWorld folks, it includes some live animal elements as well.

Unlike its sister properties, the San Diego water park is not located on the campus of a SeaWorld. There is, of course, SeaWorld San Diego, but the theme park is about 25 miles away.

Aquatica San Diego, which used to be operated by Knott's and was known as Knott's Soak City, offers a decent collection slides and water rides. Among the featured attractions are Tassie’s Twister, a giant funnel ride, Walhalla Wave, a family raft ride, and HooRoo Run, an 80-foot-long slide complex with two enclosed and two open tube slides. There are a variety of other body and tube slides to explore as well.

If you want to go easy on the thrills, Aquatica offers a water park standby: the lazy river. As riders lazily float along the Loggerhead Lane river, they will see Caribbean flamingos perched along the banks. In addition to the flamingoes, Aquatica offers an exhibit with freshwater turtles. They can be viewed both above and under the water in their habitat.

Another common water park attraction offered by Aquatica is its Big Surf Shores wave pool. It is especially large and generates large swells. Younger kids will enjoy the more easygoing slides and features at Kata’s Kookaburra Cove and Slippity Dippity (nice name!). Walkabout Waters is an interactive water play structure with a huge tipping bucket.

What's to Eat?

Dining options include Mango Market, which offers pizza and pasta, and Waterstone Grill, which serves burgers, salads, and fry cones. Adults can get margaritas, beer, and other beverages at Rockwater Oasis. To pay for food, beverages, and other items, Aquatica offers a cashless wristband option.

New at the Park

For 2014: Taumata Racer- A high-speed mat racing slide pits passengers against one another.
