Luang Prabang Hotels

Places to Stay in Luang Prabang for Under US $40 Per Night

Although a few bad apples are sprinkled throughout town, Luang Prabang hotels are typically a great bargain for the price. Now a UNESCO World Heritage Site, tranquil Luang Prabang in Northern Laos attracts a mixed crowd of backpackers and luxury travelers, so accommodation ranges widely in price and quality.

A multitude of old colonial mansions and residences have been converted into hotels in Luang Prabang. From riverside guesthouses to five-star spa resorts, competition has kept prices decently lower than expected.

Regardless, booking in advance -- particularly during the busy season and holidays such as Songkran -- will net you better prices.

All of these two-star and three-star hotels can be booked for less than US $40 per night. If you can survive with only a fan rather than air conditioning, there are even cheaper backpacker guesthouses.

Riverside Guesthouse

Just as the name suggests, this riverside accommodation is more guesthouse than hotel or resort. The eight rooms are a little dark, however, the roominess and incredible location make up for the basic appearance. Even for the low price you'll still find all the expected amenities such as free Wi-Fi, 24-hour room service, and even a pub on site.

Villa Merry Lao III Hotel

Clean, convenient, and friendly, the Villa Merry Lao III Hotel is basic, however, you'll be made to feel at home by the helpful staff. Many rooms have a decent view of Phou Si Hill; you can watch the morning alms ceremony from the hotel. Several of Luang Prabang's popular bars are located across the street, but the 11:30 p.m. curfew keeps noise from being a problem. The free Wi-Fi only works on the ground floor.
