Los Angeles Walking Tours

It is said that nobody walks in LA, but it really is the best way to get a closer look at the city's distinct attractions and neighborhoods. From Venice Beach to Pasadena, there are local enthusiasts ready to introduce you to LA and its environs on foot, or you can download a walking tour map and explore on your own.

    Red Line Tours is the biggest commercial walking tour company in Los Angeles. They offer the Behind the Scenes Tour of Hollywood and a couple different tours of Downtown LA. In Hollywood, they share a space with Starline Tours at The Chinese Theatre. In Downtown Los Angeles, they are located in the atrium of the Bradbury Building. Tours average 75 to 90 minutes. Red Line Tours use the Live Audio system so participants can listen to the guide using a headset so you can hear over street noise.     Hollywood Heritage offers 3 1/2 hour walking tours of historic Hollywood Blvd every Saturday morning at 9 am. Tours are limited to 10 participants. Reservations are required.

    The Los Angeles Conservancy offers a variety of historic and architectural tours, predominantly in Downtown Los Angeles. They have well-trained docents who lead the 2 1/2 hour tours, most of which depart Saturday mornings at 10 am. Some are offered weekly, others monthly. Tours meet in the center of Pershing Square at 9:50 am. Tickets can be purchased online with a credit card or ​on-site with cash. You can also download Downtown walking tour maps and a tour podcast from their website.

    The Santa Monica Conservancy's 2-hour docent-led walking tours depart at 10 am Saturday mornings and cover 130 years of Santa Monica history in six city blocks. Tours depart from in front of Hostelling International, 1436 2nd Street, Santa Monica. Reservations are recommended. Tickets can be purchased online. Gift certificates are available. Group tours can be arranged by appointment.

    A self-guided walking tour map is also available for purchase at the Visitors Center, 1920 Main Street and the Hostelling International Travel Store, 1434 Second Street.

    Pasadena Heritage offers walking tours of Old Pasadena at 9 am on the first Saturday of the month.

    Off 'N Running Tours takes runners and fitness walkers on guided tours of Beverly Hills and Santa Monica. The Running from the Paparazzi Tour covers 4 miles through Beverly Hills. The Marvelous Mansions Tour takes in 4.3 miles including a stop at the Greystone Mansion. Stars of the Silver Screen is a Movie Stars' homes tour on foot.     Free LA Tours offers several different walking tours of Downtown LA and a tour of Hollywood. Although there's no charge to sign up, a $15 contribution is encouraged at the end of the tour if you enjoy it, which is pretty much what other organizations charge for a Downtown walking tour. 

    They also offer private tours and food tours for a fixed fee.
