Whether you've grown up on Long Island, NY and want to stay on the Island while attending college, or you're from another part of the country and want to get a degree in New York, you have many options. There are a number of excellent colleges and universities to choose from. Here's a list of Long Island's institutes of higher learning, along with their contact information.

    Adelphi has won a number of awards: for the second year in a row, the university has been placed on the President's Higher Education Community Service Honor Roll. It also appeared on the U.S. News' 2013 Best Graduate Schools list for their School of Social Work and more.

    The university offers a number of schools and programs including the Derner Institute of Advanced Psychological Studies, Honors College, the College of Arts and Sciences, Ruth S. School of Education, University College, Robert B. Willumstad School of Business, the School of Nursing, and the School of Social Work.

    Adelphi's main campus is in Garden City, New York, but there are also centers in Manhattan, Hauppauge and Poughkeepsie.

    Five Towns College offers programs in music, film and video, theater arts, audio, education, business, music business and mass communication.

    Hofstra University features over 100 undergraduate and about 150 graduate programs, from Business, Communication, Education, Liberal Arts and Sciences, Health and Human Services to Engineering and Applied Science. Hofstra also features a School of Medicine and a School of Law.​​

    Long Island University features several campuses in Brookville, Brentwood, Riverhead and also outside of Long Island in Westchester and Brooklyn.​

    Located in Nassau County, Molloy College features a wide range of undergraduate majors and minors, graduate degree programs and a doctoral program in nursing.

    Nassau Community College, part of the SUNY (State University of New York) system, offers hundred of day, evening, weekend, and online (distance ed) courses in over 70 fields of study.

    The community college offers AA, AS, and AAS degrees and other special certificate programs.

    New York College of Health Professionals offers courses in holistic health care. It offers undergraduate and graduate degree programs in acupuncture, massage therapy, Oriental medicine, and herbal medicine, as well as continuing education certificate programs in holistic nursing for RNs, yoga, Tai Chi, Reiki, and more.

    The New York Institute of Technology (NYIT) hubs are located in Old Westbury and Manhattan in New York, and with global campuses in Canada, China, the MIddle East and online. There is an additional Long Island location in Central Islip.

    NYIT offers 90 degree programs (undergraduate, graduate and professional) in over 50 fields of study which include architecture and design, arts and sciences, education, engineering and computing sciences, osteopathic medicine, and more.

    SUNY Empire State College has over 34 locations in New York State and the world. The college's three locations on Long Island, NY are located in Hauppauge, Old Westbury, and ​Riverhead, NY.​

    St. Joseph's College has two campuses: one in Patchogue, Long Island, and another in Brooklyn. The college offers over 23 undergraduate majors and graduate degrees in business, health care management, human services, management, nursing, education, and accounting.

    Suffolk Community College is a two-year public community college with three campuses on Long Island, NY. The college offers A.A. (Associate in Arts), A.S. (Associate in Science), and A.A.S. (Associate in Applied Science) degrees, and certificates in over 70 fields of study.

    Named one of the best colleges in the north in US News and World Report's 2011 rankings, SUNY Farmingdale offers 28 bachelor's degrees and 9 associate degrees.

    Located on a campus that sprawls across more than 1000 acres on the North Shore of Long Island, NY, SUNY Stony Brook features an 8,300-seat stadium and sports complex, its own performing arts center, the Healing Sciences Center, a Veterans Home, Stony Brook Medical Center, and more.

    SUNY College at Old Westbury sits on a 600-acre campus and offers undergraduate Bachelor of Arts, ​Bachelor of Science and Bachelor of Professional Studies degrees as well as graduate degrees: Master of Science in Accounting and Master of Science in Taxation.​

    Touro Law Center offers full-time as well as part-time day and evening J.D programs, plus dual degree and LL.M. programs. Its campus is adjacent to the federal and state courthouses in Central Island, NY. The college features a collaborative court program and the opportunity to gain experience in pro bono cases under the direction of the faculty.

    Set on 82 acres, with 28 buildings and The American Merchant Marine Museum, the United States Merchant Marine Academy offers courses in marine transportation, marine engineering, marine engineering systems, marine engineering and shipyard management, maritime operations and technology, logistics, and intermodal transportation.

    Webb Institute in Glen Cove, NY is a four-year engineering college with a specialty in marine engineering and naval architecture.

    A bit of trivia: Webb Institute served as the face of the "Wayne Manor" in Batman Forever.
