Guide to Las Vegas's McCarran International Airport

Las Vegas McCarran International Airport was built in 1930. It was named after Sen. Pat McCarran, author of the Civil Aeronautics Act. He was also credited with developing aviation across the United States during the golden age of travel. it is currently served by 26 domestic and international airlines, handling 45 million passengers in 2015.

The airport allows travelers to check on the status of arrivals and departures and by date. You can also see a running list of arrivals and departures.

Getting to the Airport

Public Transportation: The Regional Transportation Commission of Southern Nevada (RTC) offers bus service to and from the airport. 


Ride Share: The airport is now allowing ride sharing providers Lyft and Uber to pick up and drop off passengers. Travelers arriving at McCarran can use their smartphone app to call for a ride from either company. There are pick-up and drop-off locations at Terminal 1 and Terminal 3. 

Parking: The airport offers Long Term, Valet, Economy and Remote/Oversized Vehicles in Terminal 1 and Short Term, Long Term, Economy and Oversized Vehicles in Terminal 3. There's also a motorcycle parking lot.

Maps: McCarran offers travelers the My Journey feature, which guides users to everything from available parking to food/beverage/retail to gates.

Security CheckpointsThere are five checkpoints at McCarran: three in Terminal 1 and two at Terminal 3.

Airlines: The airport is home to 26 domestic and international carriers that served 45 million passengers in 2015.

FlyFit: This exercise fitness program offers travelers the chance to use walking paths in its two terminals. You can walk by following one of the routes on this overview map. Individual maps are available here. Paths range from approximately one-half to 1.5 miles in length, covering the secure and non-secured areas.

Pet relief areas: The airport has three designated enclosed areas that travelers can use for pets and service animals: Terminal 1 Baggage Claim, Terminal 1 Ticketing and Terminal 3.

Hotels: The airport is home to more than 200 airports, and is also in close proximity to hotels on the world-famous Strip.

Unusual Services

The Howard W. Cannon Aviation Museum is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week year round. It shows the story of aviation in Southern Nevada. Exhibits are spread throughout several airports in the Clark County Airport System. The main exhibit, at 3000 square feet, is located on Level 2 above baggage claim at Terminal 1 at McCarran International Airport. Other exhibits are located in the gate areas, ticketing and along the moving walkway in the C Gates.

The airport is also home to dozens of slot machines.
