We purchased the Laguna Beach Textile Company Round Beach Towel so our reviewer could put it to the test. Keep reading for our full product review.
It’s been said that once you get on board with the round beach towel trend, you’ll never look back. To see what all the buzz is about, we reviewed the Laguna Beach Textile Company Round Beach Towel. The direct-to-consumer brand was founded by a self-described former cabana boy. After working in a five-star resort in Southern California for years, he opened his own company on a mission to bring high-quality towels in classic California beach style to beachgoers everywhere.
Fittingly, a spring break road trip offered us the perfect opportunity to hit a favorite pocket beach in the arts community of Laguna Beach itself and test the towel for ourselves. Spoiler alert: It sets the bar sky-high for style, versatility, and more. Read on to find out all the reasons we loved this round and ready beach towel.
No matter which shore you choose to unroll this beauty, the look is all California cool. As West Coast natives, we found the round shape finished with tasseled fringe to be the stuff of bohemian beach style dreams, while the feel is pure high-end luxe.
The genius of a round towel design is in its multipurpose versatility—it’s perfect for sunbathing at any angle, wrapping up after a swim, or holding a picnic spread for your squad.
A few years back, we were given a set of pool towels purchased from a gorgeous resort on the big island of Hawaii that uses them exclusively. These Laguna Beach Textile Company towels are the only ones we’ve tried since then that come close to the plush, resort-like feel. With the fresh design and subtly sophisticated colors, it’s also a towel that gets noticed, so don’t be surprised to get a lot of inquiries about where it’s from—we certainly did! The colorway options are inspired by a coastal sunrise (Sea Glass) and sunset (Coral). The Sea Glass version we reviewed reflected the Laguna seascape beautifully in soft muted aqua, blue, green, and peach tones.
Made from 100 percent long-staple Aegean cotton, this cabana towel has a super-soft feel and a substantial weight. That’s thanks to a high grams per square meter (GSM) count of 600 (compared to the 250-450 GSM range of most other beach towels).
Two-ply ringspun thread enhances the durability of the towel, and the Jacquard weave means the design is literally woven into the towel, as opposed to being screen-printed on one side. The result is a strong, durable towel with a design that won’t fade away with wash and use over time. And finally, one side of the towel features a plush velour.
In our tests, we found the construction to be supremely soft and comfy. After taking a dip, the terry underside of the towel-dried us off quickly. That said, the towel is thick, and once it was damp, it never fully dried out at the beach before we had to call it a day.
Due to the bulk and round size of the round towel, we think it works best for hitting local beach spots or the pool. When rolled, it does fit in a beach bag, but packing this towel in a suitcase or overnight duffel would involve taking up way too much precious real estate. Instead, we’d opt for a Turkish towel, a sarong, or whatever is available when we get to our destination.
We found pivoting around with the sun instead of having to reposition the towel to get the best angle throughout the day to be a real treat.
The genius of a round towel design is in its multipurpose versatility—it’s perfect for sunbathing at any angle, wrapping up after a swim, or holding a picnic spread for your squad. We put the Laguna Beach Textile Company Round Beach Towel to the test on all these fronts and found it did not disappoint.
A sunbathing dream, we found pivoting around with the sun instead of having to reposition the towel to get the best angle throughout the day to be a real treat. One thing to note, however, is that size-wise, with only 5 feet of coverage in any direction you lie, most of us will have our legs partly on the sand.
With only 5 feet of coverage in any direction you lie, most of us will have our legs partly on the sand.
The material wicked away water post-swim surprisingly well for such thick fabric. The size of the towel makes it perfect to picnic on as well, with ample snack-to-sand margins. Last but not least, wrapping up in this enormous plush towel to catch a sunset kept the evening chill at bay.
We followed the instructions on The Laguna Beach Textile Company’s blog post on towel care, which basically involved washing it on a warm gentle cycle separately the first time and then with like colors after the first wash. They give the A-okay to tumble-dry on low, so we went for it and found it came out beautifully. It did leave some lint behind, but not an excessive amount, and there was no noticeable shrinkage or fading. The towel actually came out feeling even softer and fluffier than when it went in.
At $45, the towel is priced in the mid to high range for this style category, but we found the cost to be reflective of the high quality and design. The company is a direct-to-consumer brand without any brick and mortar stores, which enables them to keep their pricing structure leaner than some.
This towel was made to last, and we predict we’ll love it for a long time. Also loveable is the company’s charitable business model. It’s easy to feel good about spending a little more knowing Laguna Beach Textile Company donates a portion of all proceeds to organizations supporting beach, marine wildlife, and environmental protection.
Australia-based, direct-to-consumer company The Beach People started out in 2013 making “luxe seaside essentials,” including “Roundie" towels. In comparing the specifications of their Savannah Round Towel to that of the Sea Glass Round Beach Towel that we tested for this review, we found the products to be strikingly similar.
Both towels are 5 feet in diameter, and both are Jacquard-woven with premium cotton, though the towel we reviewed is thicker at 600 GSM compared to the Savannah’s 480 GSM. Both companies embrace a do-good business model, with partial proceeds from sales supporting environmental organizations and ocean conservation initiatives.
Overall, the biggest difference between the two towels is the price tag, with the $99 Savannah Roundie coming in at roughly double the price of the $45 Sea Glass Round Beach Towel.
Great Bay Home offers the more budget-friendly Printed Round Beach Towels with Tassels for $19.99. However, their towel is screen-printed instead of Jacquard-woven—and it weighs less overall, making it a less substantial, albeit affordable, version in the round towel category.

The Laguna Beach Textile Company Round Beach Towel is a winner for those looking for a stylish round towel made with high-quality materials at a reasonable price.
