We're back with our series Inside Atlanta—each week, we sit down with influential locals to talk about what Atlanta means to them. Today we’re chatting with Porsha Thomas, the founder of Ladypreneur League, a thriving community for women entrepreneurs, and Associate Community Manager at WeWork Buckhead. This boss lady took over the local startup scene in 2013 by providing workshops, events and speaking engagements, all catering to women in business.
She was even part of an official SXSW panel this year with the women from Stuff Mom Never Told You podcast and Bossed Up on Digital Entrepreneurship and Modern Womanhood. Today we get a tour of The Big Peach lead by Thomas herself.
I live in… “Cabbagetown. I love that it’s centrally located. I’m super close to some of my favorite neighborhoods (Grant Park, O4W, Inman Park, Candler Park) and for Atlanta, it’s relatively walkable, [with] a functional MARTA. I ditched my car three years ago when I left Texas, so ‘walkable Atlanta’ is a huge thing for me.”
I Wish People Knew… “Atlanta is so much more than what you see on TV. It is 100 percent the land of opportunity. I feel that Ladypreneur League has been able to flourish because Atlanta is such an open-minded and supportive city when it comes to entrepreneurship and culture. We have a fabulous startup scene here and I love that you can find so many murals by amazing artists splattered on random walls across the city.”
You Can Find Me… “At Carroll Street Cafe almost every Monday. Why? Because I can walk there and on Mondays they have half-priced tapas and a $3 featured beer all night. It’s wonderful.”
It’s Dinner Time, I’m headed to… “Octopus Bar, Barcelona, Mi Barrio when I’m missing Texas, Ration + Dram, Home Grown, The Spence, Parish, and Gypsy Kitchen because that rooftop was made for boss ladies.”
Clock strikes 5 o’clock, I’m drinking… “The Champagne Cocktail at Bread and Butterfly.”
If I Had to Stay in a Hotel, I’d check into… “Airbnb is my thing. The Modern Treehouse is amazing.”
Atlanta’s Best Kept Secret Is… “Fresh Harvest. I get organic produce from local farms delivered to my door every Tuesday. I hate grocery shopping and Fresh Harvest’s price point is so worth it. This service is the best!”
You can’t come to ATL and not hit up Clermont Lounge at some point. I promised my mom a visit the next time she’s in town. She has no idea. *Insert evil laugh.*”
I Love Spending My Money At... “I don’t do much clothing shopping actually, I’m trying to get better at this (like grocery shopping, I hate this too.) When I’m in the mood, I’m a thrifter, so any Goodwill/Buffalo Exchange type of situation is a good one for me to be in!”
