Kimpton is coming in hot. Since being acquired by InterContinental Hotels Group in 2015, the boutique hotel brand has gone global, opening hotels in the Caribbean, Europe, and Asia, with 25 new properties slated to launch within the next couple of years. Of course, Kimpton couldn't have predicted the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020—but they're not letting the virus halt their expansion plans.
The brand's newest property is the Kimpton Armory Hotel in Bozeman, Montana, which just opened its doors on Aug. 18. And while the middle of a pandemic might seem like an odd time to launch a hotel, it makes sense in this case: as travelers flee major cities in favor of less congested locales with easy access to nature, destinations like Bozeman have become their priority.
The Kimpton Armory Hotel is a 122-room property housed in the former National Guard Armory, a 1941 landmark in downtown Bozeman. The majority of those accommodations sit in a newly constructed tower, which is now the tallest in town, that pulls from the original building's Art Deco style. Inside, they feature a subdued, slightly masculine decor scheme that uses natural materials and an earthy palette to create a sense of calm. And typical for a Kimpton, the rooms' details are luxe—think Frette linens and Atelier Bloem toiletries by Matthew Malin and Andrew Goetz.
The hotel also has several public spaces for locals and visitors alike, including a music hall that can fit 600 guests in non-pandemic times and two restaurants. But the biggest draw this summer will likely be the rooftop pool (although it's not open quite yet) and bar called the Sky Shed, which offers views of the Rocky Mountains—one of the big reasons visitors flock to the Bozeman. The town is a prime basecamp for exploring nearby natural areas, from Yellowstone National Park to Big Sky to the Gallatin River. And during the pandemic, those attractions have become all the more, well, attractive.
As with all Kimpton hotels, the property is pet-friendly, meaning it's the perfect place to visit if you're taking a big pandemic road trip out west with your four-legged friend. And with the brand's Clean Promise, which includes a mandate that masks must be worn in public spaces within its hotels, you can certainly feel safe on your travels.
