She has a master's degree in journalism from the Scripps School of Journalism at Ohio University. She also has a degree in Lithuanian and a master's in political science, Russian and Eastern European studies, from Vilnius University in Lithuania. She participated in a language and culture immersion program at Tomsk State University in Siberia.
