Although among Hawaii's four main islands Kauai is the least populous, with just around 67,000 residents, this spectacular, lush, and tranquil place enjoys an ardent following among LGBT visitors and has quite a few year-round gay residents. The scene here on this eco-conscious island renowned for hiking, kayaking, diving, and many other outdoor activities is low-keyed and friendly, with much of the gay socializing taking place on an intimate scale, at a handful of beaches and restaurants and also among local residents.
However, the island LGBT advocacy and education organization, Lambda Aloha, does host a number of gatherings and mixers throughout the year, including a Kauai Gay Pride, held in mid-June - the dates for 2016 are June 17 through 19.
Kauai Gay Pride includes a Full Moon Beach Campout in Lydgate Park on Friday, June 17, a Cocktail Mixer at Lava Lava Beach Club from 6 to 10 pm on Saturday, and a Pride Potluck Picnic back at Lydgate Park from 11 am to 4 pm on Sunday.
Additionally, Lambda Aloha sponsors other parties throughout the year - check the Facebook page for the latest events. One favorite party is the annual Lambda Aloha Halloween Dance Party, held in late October - most recently this colorful and campy fete was held at the pavillon in Lydgate State Park, in Lihue, which is also one of the most LGBT-favored beaches on the island.
Speaking of fun in the sun, the two top Kauai gay beaches, Donkey Beach and Secret Beach (aka Kauapea Beach) are great places to meet other fellow "family" when on Kauai anytime of the year.
