She has made her home in Colorado for more than two decades, writing about the Centennial State in such publications as the Denver Post, Dallas Morning News, Sunset, Luxury Las Vegas, Every Day with Rachael Ray, Fodors.com, Expeida.com and many more newspapers, magazines and websites.

Kara has spoken about social media and travel blogging at industry events, such as BlogWorld & New Media Expo, Social Media Strategies for Travel, Type-A-Mom Conference and PRSA Travel & Tourism. She is regularly quoted as a travel expert in newspapers and magazines, such as USA TODAY, Real Simple, The Nest and Connecticut Parent.


Kara holds a bachelor's degree in English from Dartmouth College. She is a member of the Society of American Travel Writers (SATW), the nation's leading professional organization for travel writers. Awards include the 2012 Lowell Thomas Travel Journalism Award for Best Travel Blog for The Vacation Gals, a blog she co-owns with two other travel writers
