"A Christmas Carol" at the Spencer Theatre

Brought to life in an all-new adaptation by KCRep Artistic Director Eric Rosen, this production is sure to entertain the whole family as it tells the tale of Ebenezer Scrooge, the grumpy old business tycoon, as he encounters the ghosts of Christmas Past, Present, and Future.

This season marks the 37th iteration of this timeless Christmas tale by Charles Dickens and is filled with huge musical numbers, elaborate costumes, and stunning sets. This magical thrill ride is sure to put you and your children in the mood for the holiday season, but tickets sell out fast, especially closer to the Christmas holiday, so make your reservation early.

"The Nutcracker" at the Muriel Kauffman Theatre

This year, the Kansas City Ballet is back with "The Nutcracker," straight from its premiere at the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C. The timeless tale by ETA Hoffman and scored by Tchaikovsky is sure to delight audiences of all ages, especially children, as you watch the sparkling costumes flit across the stage.

The show runs a little over two hours with a 20-minute intermission, so even the youngest of children should be able to get through it without a fuss, and if you arrive more than an hour before the show and you can also get your photograph taken with one of the stars of the show—perfect for that last-minute Christmas card!

"Great Russian Nutcracker" at Arvest Bank Theatre

For one day only, catch this dynamic international tour as it makes its way through Kansas City and graces the stage at the Arvest Bank Theatre. Marking the 25th annual tour by the Moscow Ballet, this production of "Great Russian Nutcracker" features hand-crafted costumes, huge puppets, Russian nesting dolls, and some of the finest talents out of Russian dance.

Keep in mind that since this performance is a one-time event, tickets are likely to sell out fast. You should book at least a month in advance if you plan to travel to Kansas City during the holidays and hope to catch this limited-time show.

"The Hip Hop Nutcracker" at Arvest Bank Theatre

Didn't get enough nutcracking with the Moscow Ballet? Why not try it in a completely different style and book tickets to see this exciting production of "The Hip Hop Nutcracker!" Since it's 2014 debut in Washington, this stage production has taken the nation by storm, receiving rave reviews everywhere it goes.

If you and your child aren't into that whole traditional Christmas pomp and circumstance, consider this a mix-up to your ho-hum holiday routine. As it runs one night only, be sure to book tickets early to this performance or risk missing this​ once-a-season treat!

"The Ghosts of Christmas Eve" at Sprint Center

The Trans-Siberian Orchestra is making a limited appearance at the Spring Center this December, bringing the residents and visitors of Kansas City a brand new production entitled "The Ghosts of Christmas Eve."

If you're planning on visiting Kansas City during the first of the month rather than closer to the busier Christmas rush, considering booking a seat to catch this beautiful cacophony of music by one of the world's premier choirs and orchestras.
