Kalahari Sandusky Is Among the Best U.S. Indoor Water Parks

Kalahari Water Park in Sandusky, OH.
Kalahari Resorts

Why visit the Kalahari Sandusky? Well, for one, the massive African-themed resort features one of the world's largest indoor water parks. If slides and rides are what you're after, the Kalahari delivers as many -- if not more -- attractions than a major outdoor water park.

Among its many rides are the two Kalahari Surfaris (FlowRider surfing simulators), the world's first (indoor or outdoor) uphill Zip Coaster, indoor-to-outdoor spas, the Wild Kingdom interactive water play area, and a ton of slides. The park's family raft ride, Victoria Falls, careens wildly in the dark and is particularly thrilling. The park also features one of the longest -- and best -- indoor water park lazy rivers. A transparent roof covers part of the water park, allowing the sun's rays to shine on guests, even during the winter.

Not enough water park fun for you? During the warmer months, the resort also offers an outdoor water park with even more activity pools, whirlpool spas, and other attractions.

A full-featured resort, Kalahari offers a host of activities beyond its world-class water park and is a veritable family vacation paradise. Kids will love the huge arcade, indoor mini-golf, a pottery-making shop, the Safari Adventures Animal Park (with real animals), and the enormous Tree Top dry play area complete with foam ball cannons.

Adults will appreciate the luxurious day spa, and everyone will enjoy the hotel's spacious suites. In addition to the permanent attractions, the resort offers a daily schedule of activities that might include complimentary movies (with popcorn!), craft making, contests, or scavenger hunts.

The complex also features a large convention center, meeting facilities, and onsite condominiums.

Indoor Water Park Features

The enormous park features virtually every kind of water park slide and attraction, including two surfing simulator rides, water coaster, lazy river, bowl ride, wave pool, body slides, tube slides, raft rides, mat-racing slide, interactive water play structure, activity pools, and indoor/outdoor whirlpool saunas.

Admission Policy

The water park is open to both registered hotel guests and to the general public. Check Kalahari Sandusky hotel rates at TripAdvisor.

What's to Eat?

For dining, the Kalahari offers the Great Karoo Marketplace, which features a buffet, the Candy Hut, which is overflowing with tempting treats, and Ivory Coast and Cafe Mirage, two casual eateries. The resort's full-service eatery is The Reserve, which doubles as a late-night nightclub. Longnecks, which is a sports bar, is located in the convention center.

Both the indoor and outdoor water parks offer sandwich and snack shops as well as bars.

Operating Season

The park and resort are open year-round. (That is one of the advantages of indoor water parks.)
