Here are July 4 events and celebrations in and around Sacramento for the year 2008.

ELK GROVE RUN – Families can run at the Elk Grove 2008 Run 4 Independence 5K run/walk. Adults can race the 5K while kids can enjoy the ½-mile race.
When: Race starts at 8 a.m.
Location: Elk Grove Regional Park
Cost: $25 per runner, $15 for ages 15 and younger
 

MATSUYAMA FUN RUN – Run for a cause at the 13th Annual 4th of July Fun Run/Walk at Matsuyama Elementary.

Proceeds will be used for the 2008-09 sixth graders to participate at the Sly Park Environmental Science Camp in the Pollak Pines area. Trophies will be given to the first place finishers. All pre-registered racers receive an event shirt. Get the registration form online.

When: Check in at 7 a.m., race at 8 a.m.

5-MILER RUN – One and all can participate in the 32nd Annual Fourth of July 5-Miler.
When: 7:15 a.m. to 7:45 a.m. sign in. 7:45 a.m. start of kids’ ½ mile race (10 and younger), 8 a.m. start of 5-mile race.
Location: Glen Hall Park, 5415 Sandburg Dr., north of Sac State
Cost: Free.

ROSEVILLE RUN – The Roseville Community Crime Stoppers sponsors the 4th of July 5K Fun Run/Walk in downtown Roseville. The event is followed by a Fourth of July parade with activities.


When: Registration begins 7 a.m., race starts at 8 a.m.

Cost: $25 per runner, $15 for ages 15 and younger

CAL EXPO – The Cal Expo gates will open at 6 p.m. to start the July 4th celebration where visitors can be entertained and dance while waiting for the show in the sky.

The US Air Force will perform at 7:30 p.m. The State Fair Star Talent Auditions will also be held.
Fireworks: 9:30 p.m.
Location: Cal Expo, 1600 Exposition Blvd., Sac.
Cost: Free in grandstands. Reserved seating is $10. Parking is $8.

POCKET/GREENHAVEN – The Pocket/Greenhaven community will host a July 4 parade at 10 a.m. that will travel along Windbridge Drive to Garcia Bend Park.
Location: Garcia Bend Park, 7654 Pocket Road, Sac.
Cost: Free

CARMICHAEL – The Carmichael Gala 4th of July Celebration will commence with a parade at 10 a.m. There will be free kids area featuring an obstacle course, water slide, and arts and crafts. Sacramento Symphonic Band along with Touchtone Theater will perform. The Carmichael Little League will host a snack bar selling hot dogs, candy, ice cream, and soda.
Fireworks: 9 p.m.
Location: La Sierra Community Center, 5325 Engle Road, Carmichael
Cost: Free admission and parking.

CITRUS HEIGHTS – Sunrise Mall will host a free Independence Day celebrations with live music, 3D fireworks show that will be simulcast on 98 Rock and a Shriners Kid’s Carnival. The carnival will begin July 2 and last until July 6, from noon to 9 p.m.

DAVIS – The City of Davis 4th of July celebration will feature Duval Speck, Davis Wakamastsu taiko drummers, Music Matt, Custom Neon and Skydance Skydiving. Festivities begin with a free recreational swim at the Arroyo, Manor and Community pools from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. From 3 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. the Community Park will be the center of food and game booths. The annual champsionship Softball Tournament will start 6 p.m. and end at 9 p.m. at Community Park.
Fireworks: 9:30 p.m.
Location: Community Park, 1405 F St., Davis.
Cost: Free.
 

ELK GROVE – The City of Elk Grove hosts its annual Salute to Red, White & Blue with festivities beginning at 3 p.m. with live music, food, vendor booths and kids activities.
Fireworks: 9:45 p.m.
Location: Elk Grove Regional Park, 9950 Elk Grove-Florin Road, Elk Grove
Cost: Admission is free, $10 per vehicle.

RANCHO CORDOVA – Celebrate Independence Day in a grand style with the 24th Annual Rancho Cordova 4th of July, 2-day event. Friday’s festivities begins with a parade down Coloma Road at 10 a.m. Throughout the day, there are plenty of kids activies from animalcentric areas, a carnival, arcade, train rides, magic show, hula hoop contest, potato sack race and a Guitar Hero competition. Hip Service will provide the night’s entertainment. On Saturday, the fund continues with two evening concerts highlighting the day with the Turtles at 6:30 p.m. and the Rascals at 8:30 p.m.
When: July 4, 10 a.m. til end of fireworks and July 5, 8:30 a.m. to end of fireworks
