Julia was born in New Orleans, grew up mostly in California, and returned to the Crescent City as a graduate student at Tulane University in 1987. After getting her Ph.D. in English literature a few years later, she realized she never wanted to leave the Big Easy.
Julia works as a freelance writer, editor, and website designer. She loves promoting New Orleans to the rest of the world. It’s no wonder: The food is incredible. The music is glorious. The massive live oaks are heavy with Spanish moss. Every block of houses is a small lesson in architecture. Julia contributed to TripSavvy until 2009.
About TripSavvy and Dotdash
TripSavvy writers are on-the-ground experts — they speak the local language, know how to catch their city’s tram, train or bus, and definitely have tabs on the best of everything in town, from cocktail to kids’ menu. And since the world changes every day, your travel guide should, too. Our dedicated team of editors is regularly reviewing our library to perform updates on thousands of articles per month. If you see something that doesn’t seem up to date, please let us know by emailing us at firstname.lastname@example.org.
