Julia has more than 10 years of experience as a journalist and is well-versed in both print and digital media. Her foray into travel writing began five years ago when she founded Here & There Magazine, a quarterly arts and culture publication, and continued to blossom with freelance commissions from top-tier publications.

Julia has explored more than 50 countries while documenting arts and culture, wellness practices, conservation initiatives, and contemporary design and architecture. Along the way, she’s backpacked, camped, and reviewed five-star hotels and yachts—experiencing the best of both the budget and luxury travel worlds.

In addition to writing, she’s held a number of editorial roles including the managing editor of NewsGIF, an experimental news app that Refinery29 called their “new favorite way to get the news each morning,” and ommissioning ditor of travel tech startup ATLIST Travel. She has appeared as a travel expert on episodes of OutTV’s Fabulocity.

Today, you can read Julia’s work in TripSavvy, which Julia started contributing to in 2021, as well as Condé Nast Traveler, Travel + Leisure, National Geographic, The Globe and Mail, Bloomberg, Time, and many others.

Julia graduated with high honors from Carleton University’s Bachelor of Journalism program. During her time at Carleton, she minored in law and was a reporter for student-led publications including Capital Arts Online, CJTV News, and CJ Radio News. Her work led her to win a Fraser MacDougall Prize for “Best New Voice in Human Rights Reporting”.

Before graduating, Julia studied abroad in Berlin at Freie Universitat Berlin, where she specialized in mass media. She later completed several internships including an online media internship at the Finnish Forest Research Institute in Helsinki, Finland, which further fuelled her love of Nordic design, culture, and coffee.
