Many locals call Musashi the most “authentic” around. From pickled squid to barbecued eel (a local favorite), it’s as close to Japan as you’ll get in the Queen City. The calamari here is probably the best in the city. Excellent daily lunch specials are offered as well. Take note, they’re open six days a week (closed Tuesdays).

A cool, modern atmosphere, this is another place where the environment almost seems to upstage the food. That's not to say that the food isn't good, though. As with the other places on this list, the sushi is prepared well. There are plenty of excellent choices, but this is another place to be seen. The music is loud, though, and the restaurant takes on almost an upscale club environment (with the price to match) most nights. If that's what you're looking for, Nikko is definitely your place

If you want the best sushi in Charlotte, Enso should be your destination. The food here simply looks amazing, and it doesn't disappoint in taste. There's more variety on the menu here than you can find in most places, and you won't find a bad dish at all. This is a "trendy" place located in the EpiCenter, so expect a younger, upbeat crowd. The staff here is excellent at recommending dishes based on personal tastes. So if you're not too sure what you'll like, they'll help you make a selection.

K.O. is a popular lunchtime choice for many downtown workers due to its reasonable prices (daily specials make it even better) and "to go" personality. There is limited seating available, but takeout is where they thrive. The sushi is always fresh and tasty. There is a $1 delivery charge and $15 minimum, and delivery has always been efficient, making it an excellent option for downtown workers or those visiting in hotels.
