Jacksonville's oldest mall, Gateway Town Center, a Northside collection of shops and businesses, has weathered tough times that nearly shuttered it for good. Today, it has reemerged as a thriving urban retail center with a Publix Super Market, a few small eateries, and several non-retail businesses. Favorite retail spots include Ice Man/Mr. Kicks, Footlocker and Ashley Stewart. Non-retail tenants include WorkSource; chiropractic, dialysis and pediatric care providers; and War on Poverty, a nonprofit organization that works to revitalize minority communities in Florida.

The Jacksonville Landing is a U-shaped "festival marketplace" downtown on the St. Johns River. It comprises about 40 shops and restaurants, plus several bars and nightclubs. The two-level center courtyard features a fountain where little tykes cool off on hot days and play host to countless concerts and other events. Favorite shops are the Nine West outlet, Hana & Her Sister Fine Jewelry and The Toy Factory. There's a food court with fast food restaurants and several full-service restaurants, including Koja Sushi, Benny's Steak & Seafood and Hooters.
