Inside Atlanta: ESPN Announcer, Mike Morgan, shares his favorite spots in Atlanta

We're back with our series Inside Atlanta—each week, we sit down with influential locals to talk about what Atlanta means to them. Today we’re chatting with Mike Morgan, a college football and basketball announcer at ESPN. A Southern sports fanatic through and through, Morgan was meant to live in Atlanta – the SEC sports capital. When he’s not calling games, he can be found out and about around Atlanta.

Today we get a tour of The Big Peach led by Morgan himself.

I live in… “Brookhaven. It's convenient to Buckhead, and continues to grow its own night life and restaurant scene. But, it also offers some of the quiet and subtleties of a suburb without actually being OTP.”

I Wish People Knew… “what Brookhaven is becoming: a place where people of all ages can enjoy city living without some of the downside of living directly in the city. Pure, Kaleidoscope, Verde, Corner Pizza and Valenza are some of my favorite spots.”

You Can Find Me… “at Lake Lanier in the summer, various gyms playing basketball all year, and at a multitude of restaurants around the city. I'm kind of an amateur foodie. I love the fact that Atlanta has so many great places to eat. I've enjoyed several, but still have many more to explore.”

It’s Dinner Time, I’m Headed to… “when the weather is right, anywhere with a patio works for me.

When I'm not at a sporting event, I love a good sports bar to take in a game, like Hudson Grille or Dantannas. Love a good steakhouse, too...Hal's tops the list.”

Clock Strikes 5 o’clock, I’m Drinking… “I'm all about variety. If it's with a nice meal, a bottle of Pinot Noir at Vine & Tap. If it's at a sports bar, give me a good dark beer at Tavern at Phipps.”

If I had to Stay in a Hotel, I’d Check Into… “the W in Buckhead. Good location. Great rooftop bar. Solid pool. That's all I ask.”

Atlanta’s Best Kept Secret is… “gotta say Gio's Chicken. Incredible dishes. Then, you cross street, you grab some gelato. The guy has his own empire there, and he's done it right. Also, The Painted Pin is just a fun place to go to that is much more than just a bowling alley.”

When I’m Playing Tourist I go to… “the new Braves stadium, [where I’ve] been known to sneak a peek, and [I like to] keep an eye on how the Falcon’s stadium is coming along downtown.”

I Love Spending My Money at… “golf courses around town, mainly Chastain. Love spending it any place that serves food and drinks on the lake this time of year, like Sunset Cove Beach Café and Bullfrogs.”
