The city of Albuquerque opened its small rink on Civic Plaza in late November and plans to have it open through early January, daily except for Mondays and Tuesdays. The small rink of white plastic will be surrounded by evergreen trees and bales of hay. Christmas music will play while Skaters enjoy the ice. The ice rink is for children and adults and is free for those who bring skates. Those who don't can rent them for a fee.

The fun of ice skating in Albuquerque takes place all year long. The Outpost is located in the Sandia foothills near the Elena Gallegos Open Space. and keeps you cool all summer or skating nicely through the winter months. Beginners are welcome, and public sessions are open to anyone and all ages. The Outpost offers public skating sessions as well as private lessons. There are also hockey programs. The Outpost Hockey School has weekly power skating clinic on a drop-in basis, for both youth and adults. Stick and Puck sessions are available.
The arena provides birthday parties that include skating tickets, skate rentals, pizza, soda, a birthday cake and a reserved table with cups, plates, and napkins.
