Houston Restaurant Weeks takes place from August 1 through Labor Day, and for those five glorious weeks, Houston diners can visit dozens of restaurants throughout the city for special menu offerings — often at a great discount.
It's not just a month-long excuse for indulgence, it's also all for a great cause. Participating restaurants donate a portion of their earnings from their Restaurant Weeks menu items to the Houston Food Bank. For every $20 meal you participate in, the Houston Food Bank will be able to provide nine meals for Houston families in need.
With great deals plus a great cause, the only question left to ask is: where to start? Here are five great spots to try during Houston Restaurant Weeks.
NOTE: Before heading to any of the following restaurants, it's a good idea to call ahead to let them know you are interested in the Houston Restaurant Weeks menu and to be sure they are offering the menu that day. While all of the restaurants on this list are open to walk-ins, it's also a good idea to make a reservation to avoid a long wait.
One of Montrose's more upscale Mexican restaurants, Hugo's is normally quite a splurge. During Houston Restaurant Weeks, however, you can get a jaw-droppingly delicious meal for only $20 per person for a two-course lunch or $35 for a three-course dinner.
The dinner options are divided up into four distinct menus, and for an additional fee, you can get suggested wine pairings for each course.
Tip: Street parking is limited. To avoid a headache, opt for the complimentary valet.
Brennan's of Houston
Brennan's of Houston (not to be confused with Brennan's of New Orleans) offers a high-end menu of Texas Creole cuisine with a New Orleans-style ambiance. At Brennan's, they take southern hospitality very seriously. The staff are warm and friendly, providing a nice balance of high quality without being stuffy.
Try the Restaurant Weeks dinner menu for a romantic date night, or the Brunch menu for a lively and leisurely Sunday treat.
Ibiza Food and Wine Bar
Ibiza Food and Wine Bar is located in Houston's Midtown, just a short walk from the METRORail Red Line train's McGowen stop. Ibiza specializes in upscale American cuisine and has a great selection of both classic dishes, as well as inventive (but oh-so-delicious) flavor combinations, such as their watermelon salad with mint, chilies, feta, and olives. Bonus: Ibiza is one of Houston's most romantic restaurants, making it a great date-night place as well.
Tip: Use the complimentary valet, or try your hand at street parking along a nearby side street. Hadley or Travis streets often have spaces available and are only a short distance to the restaurant. Just be sure to read the parking signs, as parking is ticketed or metered during certain days/hours.
If you love seafood — especially Mexican seafood — this is one of the best places in the Bayou City to find it. Located in Houston's Galleria area, Caracol is upscale without being overly stuffy and is a popular place to celebrate birthdays, anniversaries or special occasions. Dinner here can often run $60 or more per person, but during Restaurant Weeks, you can get a four-course dinner for $35-$45, and two-course lunch for just $20.
Tip: Valet is complimentary; however, if you would prefer to self-park, there is a parking garage next door. Simply ask the hostess to validate your parking stub after your meal.
Max's Wine Dive on Washington
A short drive from the Houston Heights, Max's Wine Dive in the Montrose area offers a slightly more relaxed atmosphere than others on this list while still offering high-quality food. Specializing in contemporary American cuisine, Max's Restaurant Weeks menu features tasty spins on our favorite comfort foods with dishes like Max 'N' Cheese — a three-cheese pasta with truffle cream — and Southern Fried Chicken marinated in jalapeño buttermilk.
Tip: Both seating and parking are limited at this location. Try coming during off times to beat the crowds.
