Seaview Swimming Pool and Lounge Chairs
Pictures from Maasdam Transatlantic Cruise
The 1,258-guest Maasdam cruise ship of the Holland America Line is one of the oldest ships in the fleet, having been launched in December 1993. However, this classic ship has some features (like a teak wrap-around promenade deck) that newer ships are lacking. The Maasdam also has two pools, one outdoors and the second with a sliding roof that converts it from an indoor to an outdoor pool and deck area.
These photos of the Maasdam were taken on a 17-day "Voyage of the Vikings" transatlantic cruise from Boston to Amsterdam that included stopovers in Newfoundland, Iceland, and the fjords along the western coast of Norway.
Quiet Outdoor Seating near Lido Buffet and Seaview Swimming Pool
In addition to lounge chairs, there are also some tables and chairs just outside the Lido Buffet Restaurant. This area has nice views of the Seaview Pool and outdoor decks.
Dolphin Sculpture in Lido Pool
These dolphins seem very real on a rough day at sea! It looks like they are really jumping and stirring up the water, but it's actually the ship rocking back and forth.
One of my favorite features of the Maasdam is this outdoor covered Promenade deck that encircles the ship. It's four laps to the mile, and was cold and windy on our transatlantic crossing via the northern route from Boston to Amsterdam.
Promenade Deck Walking Track
Since there are cabins beneath the Promenade Deck, no running is allowed, but it's a great place to walk in ALL kinds of weather.
The Molde Panorama from the Varden Viewpoint near Molde, Norway
The hike to the top of the Varden viewpoint is a tough one, but the view of the Molde Panorama (and the Maasdam cruise ship) is worth the effort.
