So How About the Golf Courses?

The Beach Course

Stark, rugged, alluring and visibly stunning, the Beach Course winds its way through ancient lava fields along the breathtaking Kohala coastline. To describe it as anything less than “quite simply, resort golf at its finest” would be a disservice. It looks easy enough, but don’t let the swaying coconut trees and gentle ocean breeze lull you into a false sense of security. The Beach Course can test even the best players, and that’s accident. The golf course was designed by the one and only Robert Trent Jones Jr. design who literally carved the layout from the lava flow along the picturesque Anaeho’omalu Bay. The course plays a tough par 70 over 6,566 yards with a slope 134. You gotta try it!

The Kings’ Course

If you’re looking for a complete test of your golf skills, look no farther, for there is no facility on the Kohala Coast that compares with Waikoloa’s unique Kings’ Course. Designed by former British Open champion Tom Weiskopf and Jay Morrish, the Kings’ Course offers the best of two worlds; golf in an island paradise, on a course that more closely resembles a layout along the west coast of Scotland. But with its stunning views of the towering volcanoes of the Big Island framed by palm trees and vibrant flowers, you’ll have no trouble remembering that you’re golfing in paradise. The 7,000-plus yard links-style course meanders over and around an ancient lava flow and is best known for its wide undulating fairways, multiple tee placements, Scottish style pot bunkers and interesting green complexes.
