If you’ve ever wanted to tee it up where the pros play, now’s your chance, and you can bring the family and enjoy some of the best golf east of the Mississippi. Hilton Head Island, named the “Golf Destination of the Year” for 2016 by the International Association of Golf and Tour Operators, has just released a plethora of exciting summer golf promotions the entire family will enjoy.

First off, the Heritage Golf Group is taking multi-generational golf to the next level. Both Port Royal and Shipyard golf course are offering “Family Golf” specials daily starting at 4 p.m., and featuring free rental clubs and nine holes ($30 for adults and $15 for juniors) at a family-friendly pace of play. No clubs, no problem! Even better, kids eat free following rounds at Shipyard while free ice cream is available for juniors at Port Royal.

Family-focused game improvement is on offer at Port Royal and Shipyard. Both are also hosting daily “Family Golf Clinics” at 3 and 4 p.m.  Cost is $15 for juniors and...MORE $20 for adults and includes complimentary junior clubs (ages 4 and up) and professional instruction. Full and half-day camps are also available for $199 and $99, respectively. After all, the family that practices together makes more birdies together.

Something new to “Golf Island:” Port Royal is rolling out family FootGolf. The golf-soccer hybrid assigns each hole a “par” and players tee off using a soccer ball, strategically kicking it until they make it in a 21-inch cup. Unique to the island, FootGolf is available Thursday through Sunday starting at 3 p.m. Nine hole rates are $13 for adults and $11 for juniors; you can rent a cart for $10 and soccer ball for $3. You can also use your own soccer ball.

But the summer fun doesn’t stop there. With 24 on-island golf courses, there’s much, much more to do. At the Palmetto Dunes Resort, the Palmetto Dunes Golf Academy for instance is welcoming juniors of all ages and skill levels for camps and clinics. For $25, kids ages 3 through 7 can participate in the “Little Swingers” program offered Monday through Wednesday from 5:15 p.m. to 6 p.m. For the slightly older crowd (ages 6 to 18) can hone their skills in the “Junior Morning and Afternoon Clinic” every Monday through Thursday at 4 p.m. for $25. Both programs take part on Palmetto Dunes’ critically acclaimed Robert Trent Jones Course.

Just a piece down the road, The Sea Pines Resort promises to treat juniors ages 12 and under to complimentary golf on Heron Point by Pete Dye with each paid adult round. Additionally, in the Escape Vacation Package, junior golfers ages 17 and under receive 50% of regular rates.

“Hilton Head Island is one of the greatest family destinations in the U.S.,” says Cary Corbitt, President of the Lowcountry Golf Course Owners Association and Vice President of Sports and Operations at The Sea Pines Resort. “Our courses, clubs and resorts are committed to growing the game through programming and promotions that make golf enjoyable and affordable.”

Okay, that should whet your appetite. Hilton Head Island boasts some really outstanding courses, exceptional value, pleasant weather and direct flights from major cities.
