Hillwood Museum and Gardens is the former estate of art collector and philanthropist Marjorie Merriweather Post, the heir to the Post cereal fortune. Located near Rock Creek Park in Northwest Washington, DC, the historic property showcases “the most comprehensive collection of 18th Century and 19th Century Russian imperial art outside of Russia.”

The Art Collection

Ms. Post was a passionate art collector who assembled a superb collection of Russian art, including paintings, furniture, Fabergé eggs, jewelry, glass, and textiles. The 36-room museum also features an impressive collection of 18th Century French decorative arts, including furnishings, tapestries, and porcelain.

The 25 acres of gardens include a circular rose garden, a traditional Japanese-style garden, a waterfall, a greenhouse for orchids, and a formal French parterre—a large crescent-shaped lunar lawn.

Hillwood Museum and Gardens offers a variety of programs throughout the year, including lectures, garden walks, workshops, and musical and theatrical performances. Visit the Museum Shop and find a great selection of books, jewelry, stationery, and other gifts. The Museum Café offers a variety of salads, sandwiches, and also serves Afternoon Tea.
