    Hicks Nurseries, 100 Jericho Turnpike, Westbury, NY, is Long Island's oldest nursery and garden home center. Founded in 1853, this sixth generation nursery sprawls across many acres and offers every variety of plant you can think of, from amaryllis to zinnia. They also sell gardening supplies, fountains, water gardens and fish pond supplies, casual furniture and much more. In addition, they offer free seminars, children's events, cooking demos and much more. During the holidays, they even have live reindeer on display to entertain the kids.     Take a stroll around the Hicks greenhouse, which is always in bloom. With garden decorations and cascading fountains, Hicks features a veritable world of living plants. It's free to walk around the grounds and admire the lush leaves and flowers, but you'll be tempted to try your hand at gardening once you see the results of the tender loving care that went into the greenery at this nursery. Hicks is open seven days a week.
