Instagram Tour of Hersheypark Roller Coasters

In Pennsylvania's famous chocolate capital, Hersheypark is a roller coaster lover's dream park, offering an assortment of 13 coasters that range from easy-peasy family coasters to intense thrill coasters that have been known to make grown men and women squeal in fear. (See a map of Hersheypark.)

Here's an annotated Instagram tour of Hersheypark's coasters.

Cocoa Cruiser

Minimum height: 36 inches
Hersheypark Ride Rating: 3 - Moderate Thrill Ride

This cute coaster never gets more than a dozen or so feet off the ground. I would put the thrill level at a 1.5, which is perfect for a kid's first roller coaster ride. Adults can ride along, too, which makes this a great family ride.

If Cocoa Cruiser leaves your child wanting more, step it up a few notches to this steel coaster that delivers more speed, height, and overall oomph.

Wildcat

Minimum height: 48 inches
Hersheypark Ride Rating: 5 - Aggressive Thrill Ride

This fun wooden coaster is not even remotely as intense as Skyrush and Fahrenheit—but it is very jarring, which may account for the 5 rating from Hershey.

Minimum height: 48 inches
Hersheypark Ride Rating: 5 - Aggressive Thrill Ride

Here's another 5-rated ride that should be in a different category than Skyrush and Fahrenheit. The fun of this ride comes from the sensation that you're going to roll over the edge, though you always take a sharp turn to stay on track.

Minimum height: 42 inches
Hersheypark Ride Rating: 5 - Aggressive Thrill Ride

If you like loop-de-loops, the SuperDooperLooper is the ride for you. Though it gets a 5 rating from Hersheypark, this is one most schoolkids can ride.

Minimum height: 42 inches
Hersheypark Ride Rating: 5 - Aggressive Thrill Ride

This psychodelic indoor glow-coaster harkens back to the days when Hersheypark had funhouses. While the spinning cars can be disorienting, the ride is not nearly as intense as some of the other 5-rated rides at Hershey.

Sidewinder

Minimum height: 48 inches
Hersheypark Ride Rating: 5 - High Thrill Ride

This shot was taken at the point where Sidewinder has made its initial backward climb and stopped briefly for a moment of calm. A second later, we shot forward through three loop-de-loops and then repeated the whole thing in reverse, going backward.

Skyrush

Minimum height: 54 inches
Hersheypark Ride Rating: 5 - Aggressive Thrill Ride

This is the tallest, fastest and most intense ride in the park. It's full throttle all the way and not for the faint-hearted.

Comet

Minimum height: 42 inches
Hersheypark Ride Rating: 4 - High Thrill Ride

If you love classic wooden coasters, the 1940s-era Comet is a must-do. This shot was taken on the first climb, with Skyrush looming to the left.

Arthur Levine, About.com's Theme Park Expert, calls Comet one of the top 10 most underrated coasters in North America.

Hersheypark Ride Rating: 4 - High Thrill Ride

How much fun are two dueling coasters that race each other to the finish? If you love wooden roller coasters, this is a double must-do. Arthur Levine, About.com's theme parks expert, puts this one on his list of Top 10 Wooden Roller Coasters in North America.

Fahrenheit

Minimum height: 54 inches
Hersheypark Ride Rating: 5 - Aggressive Thrill Ride

I have a love-hate relationship with Fahrenheit and admit I ride most of it with my eyes shut. Few rides deliver a more dramatic first drop, which begins with a flat-on-your-back ride straight up, then comes up for a brief top-of-the-world view before plummeting into a free fall with mega air time.

Great Bear

Minimum height: 54 inches
Hersheypark Ride Rating: 5 - Aggressive Thrill Ride

This is my second favorite coaster at Hersheypark. Great Bear delivers speed, twists and turns and, unlike some other thrill coasters, the ride is smooth.

Storm Runner

Minimum height: 54 inches
Hersheypark Ride Rating: 5 - Aggressive Thrill Ride

My personal favorite at Hersheypark, Storm Runner is a fantastically wild ride. The first whoosh takes you from a standstill to 72 mph before taking the first twisting climb and drop, and then going through loops, barrel rolls, and lots of twists and turns.
