The Heritage & Freedom Fest is the annual Independence Day celebration in O'Fallon, Missouri. There are three days of festivities featuring a parade, carnival, live music, food, fireworks and more. Here are all the details on this year's Heritage & Freedom Fest.
When and Where
The Heritage & Freedom Fest is held each year over the Independence Day holiday. In 2017, it's July 2 from 4 p.m. to 10 p.m., July 3 from 4 p.m. to 11 p.m., and July 4 from noon to 10 p.m. The festival is held at the Ozzie Smith Sports Complex at the intersection of T.R.
Hughes Boulevard and Tom Ginnever Avenue in O'Fallon, Missouri.
The Heritage & Freedom Fest begins with Family Day on July 2. Kids (and adults) can enjoy carnival rides and games from 4 p.m. to 10 p.m. On Family Day, visitors can purchase a wristband for unlimited rides for $20. The carnival rides continue on July 3 and 4, with tickets sold for individual rides.
The Kids Zone play area is another fun option for families during the festival. Children can jump on giant inflatables, take part in parachute games and learn to hula hoop. There are also plenty of arts & crafts including face painting, visor making and glass decorating. All of the activities in the Kids Zone are free. The Kids Zone is open July 3 from 4 p.m. to 9:30 p.m., and July 4 from 12 p.m. to 9 p.m.
The parade is July 4 at 9:30 a.m. Dozens of floats, marching bands, honor guards and more will take part.
The parade route begins at Third and Main Streets, then goes north on Main, east on Tom Ginnever Avenue and ends at T.R. Hughes Ballpark. It takes more than two hours for all of the participants to make their way along the parade route, but organizers suggest arriving early to get a good view. Everyone is also encouraged to wear red, white and blue to show their patriotic spirit during the parade.
Main Stage Entertainment
Each year, the Heritage & Freedom Fest brings in popular local and nationally-known musicians to perform free concerts. Here's the main stage entertainment for this year:
6:45 p.m. - Whiskey Morning
8:45 p.m. - Eric Paslay
5:45 p.m. - World Class Rockers
8 p.m. - Credence Clearwater Revisited
The festival offers two nights of fireworks displays. In 2017, the fireworks will be on July 3 at 10:15 p.m., and July 4 at 9:30 p.m. Organizers say the festival grounds are the best place to watch the fireworks, but you can also see the displays from Westhoff Park. The park opens 30 minutes before the fireworks to allow everyone time to find a spot for viewing. For more information, see the Heritage & Freedom Fest website.
Where to Park
Parking is available in several locations close to the Ozzie Smith Sports Complex. You can park for free at Fort Zumwalt North High School or Christian High School. Free shuttles will be running between the schools and the festival grounds on July 3 & 4. If you don't mind spending a little money, you can park for $10 at T.R. Hughes Ballpark and make the short walk to the festival grounds. Disabled parking is available in the north lot at the ballpark.
