Hawk’s Nest Beach Resort is a pet-friendly family vacation resort located in Old Lyme, Connecticut. It was founded by Charles Garvin in 1985, and it is currently still being maintained by the Garvin family. The property consists of forty-seven rentable cottages, two tennis courts, a convenience store, and the shoreline of the Hawk’s Nest Beach.
Cottage Rentals and Amenities
Available cottages fall under four different categories:
• Waterfront, which are located directly on the beach,
• Water view, which are located just off the beach,
• Garden view, which are near the tennis courts, and
• All season, which can be rented in the winter.
Amenities include Wi-Fi access, flat screen televisions, ceiling fans, and washer/dryer appliances, along with pillows and quilts provided in each cottage. Cottage sizes range from one bedroom to four bedrooms, and each cottage’s rent is paid on a weekly basis.
The convenience store, called Garvin’s Store, offers food selections, as well as last-minute items, like linens, toiletries, and souvenir clothing. Kayaks can also be rented from the store.
Cottage kitchens are outfitted with utensils, coffee makers, and microwaves. The majority of the cottages feature fireplaces and screened-in porches. Cable is also available in all cottages. Picnic tables can be found all throughout the resort.
Grills can be rented from a local service called The Grill Guys, who are available to deliver and set up gas grills for tenant usage.
Boats cannot be rented at the resort, but boat launching ports are located in several places on the property.
Reservations are arranged solely through the website. A fifty percent deposit fee is required within ten days of making reservations, the rest of which is to be paid upon checking into the resort. Tenants are charged for unnecessary damages or messes made within the cottages; the tenants are held responsible for tidying up the rental before checking out. All checking in and checking out is done on Saturdays, except upon request in off-seasons. Payment is accepted through Visa and MasterCard.
Additional, specific questions can be answered through telephone or e-mail.
The resort offers daily activities for children, the schedule of which is published every week. These activities can include talent shows, family movies, arts and crafts sessions, scavenger hunts, and sand castle contests. Every Friday, a talent show is held for all ages, outside the convenience store. Additionally, the beach is visited weekly by a marine biologist from Project Oceanology, to provide hands-on learning about the sea and its many creatures.
Tennis courts can be used at any time, but tennis racquets and shoes are not provided by the resort.
Hawk’s Nest celebrates Independence Day with a parade spearheaded by the children staying at the resort, as well as a wide range of festival activities.
The website also offers a list of surrounding attractions for vacationers to explore. This list includes the Mystic Aquarium, the Essex Steam Train, Mystic Seaport, Block Island Ferry, Fox Hopyard Golf, and two different museums.
The family resort consistently receives very good reviews on travel websites such as Trip Advisor. It is most often praised for being a quiet, relaxing resort, which does not experience crowds like many other beaches do. Book your next quiet and relaxing vacation at Hawk’s Nest Beach Resort.
