Live ghost cams around the UK let you spot the spooks from the comfort of your own living room.
You don't need to poke around in the dark in some dank, smelly place when you can scare yourself silly without leaving home. Patient armchair ghost hunters can watch for ghosts on live web cams - or should we say ghost cams - around the UK. There are plenty of ghost walks and ghost hunting expeditions in haunted places all over the UK, especially in October and November.
But if you'd rather stay warm and dry, with a cup of cocoa nearby for comfort, try tuning in to a live ghost cam and see if you can spot a famous spook,
This Halloween - or anytime actually, here's where to spot ghosts on the web in the UK:
- Ordsall Hall Ghost Cams This Tudor manor house, with a history going back more than 800 years, was importantly associated with the Radclyffe family for 300 years. Now a museum in the Greater Manchester district of Salford, it has a ghost known as the White Lady who has been seen by many locals. Is she the spirit of Margaret Radclyffe, Queen Elizabeth I's favorite lady in waiting. Or is she the ill fated Viviana, who caught the eye of Guy Fawkes when he visited to plan the Gunpowder Plot. This house has so many ghosts that there are three live ghost cams - The Great Hall, The Great Chamber and the Star Chamber. They're off line between 8am and 5pm when the house is open to the public. After that, it's happy ghost hunting all night long.
- Lincoln Ghost Cam a "state-of-the-art" image intensifying camera in the roof of The Old Radion building watches for, among others, the ice cream lady from the old cinema. The camera is updated every five minutes.
- Spookcam at Newsted Abbey, Nottingham A Halloween watch for one of four famous ghosts - Little Sir John, Sophie Hyatt-the White Lady, The Goblin Friar and The Rose Lady (probably hard to spot as she's more famous for her Victorian scent. If you make it to Newstead Abbey in October, you can take a ghost tour, with costumed guides to hear the stories of the apparitions that have spooked servants and staff for generations. In 2015, tours take place October 15,16,17,22,23 and 24, from 7:30 to 9pm and cost £15.
- Peterborough Museum Cellar All sorts of ghostly shenanigans have been rumored in this Cambridgeshire museum with a camera actually operated by the local authorities...only at night...
