According to a survey conducted on behalf of the National Retail Federation, more than 157 million Americans plan to celebrate Halloween in 2015. "After a long summer, consumers are eager to embrace fall and all of the celebrations that come with it,” said Matthew Shay, president and CEO of NRF, in a statement. “We expect those celebrating Halloween this year will look for several different activities to do with their family and friends."

Halloween falls on a Saturday in 2015, which means nightlife lovers can celebrate Halloween all weekend long. Some clubs also feature 18-and-up events for the holiday that has morphed from a children's holiday into an adult escape. The survey found spending on adult Halloween costumes will hit $1.2 billion this year, eclipsing the $950 million spending on children's costumes.
