Guide to Hong Kong Night Market

Visit the Temple Street Night Market

The Hong Kong night market is better known as The Temple Street Night Market, thanks to its location on Temple Street in Yau Ma Tei. Kicking off after 4pm and buzzing until after 10pm, this is one of the most atmospheric nights out in Hong Kong, whether you want a plastic chessboard, bags of chopsticks or Bruce Lee embossed lighter or not. In fairness, the odd collection of tourist tat aside, the market remains one of the most authentic in the city and is still popular with locals.

As the night market name suggests, the best time to visit is when the sun has gone to bed. After 7pm is when the market really gets going and you can expect the streets to be impossibly busy with punters looking for a bargain. Apart from the stacked high market stalls, the night market is also famous for its dai pai dongs, celebrity fortune tellers and ear splitting Cantonese karaoke.
