Afternoon Tea at The Goring is served on the Goring Terrace, overlooking the private garden. Or in the Lounge, depending on availability.
There is a wide selection of teas including their own Afternoon Tea blend. It's a traditional afternoon tea with a three-tiered silver stand laden with sandwiches, homemade scones, and a selection of pastries.

The Goring Afternoon Tea Review
From when you arrive at The Goring, you are made to feel special. A man wearing a morning suit takes your coat and you are seated in the lovely Terrace area overlooking the private gardens. When I visited, the gardeners were busy outside but it was winter and I expect this is a beautiful view on a summer's day.
The Terrace is a sunshine yellow room with comfortable bucket chairs and seating options for different size parties. I visited in the winter on a weekday and it wasn't fully booked so always give them a call in case they have space. I'm sure this isn't normally the case on the weekend or in the summer.
All staff is extremely courteous and afternoon tea at The Goring is a lovely treat. While I felt there was always someone nearby so I could ask a question, I never once felt they were hovering in the area or were being intrusive.
There's an extensive tea selection and tea is served in large china teapots with extra hot water provided.
I had the Silver Needle White Tea as I love its light, delicate flavor. I wish there had been a way to stop the tea brewing further but I could add hot water.
I forgot to let staff know when I booked that I'm vegetarian but they came up with some scrumptious finger sandwiches with unusual fillings including celeriac and cauliflower.
Much better than the standard grated Cheddar cheese I normally get offered.
The Cake Stand
The silver three-tiered cake stand is as lovely as you would hope and staff described all of the pastries in detail so we didn't need to ask questions.
The scones - fruit and plain - arrive on the cake stand which means they are not warm when you get to them but the cake stand looks amazing so it's very hard to decide which would be better. Devonshire clotted cream is served with the scones, plus strawberry and raspberry Tiptree jam, in individual jars, is available.
I actually couldn't finish all of the pastries but I did enjoy a walnut macaroon and a rhubarb dish which was superb.
My dining companion had never tried afternoon tea before and she was bowled by The Goring. At the time of my visit, the Traditional Afternoon Tea was priced at £25 which is outstandingly good value for such a high standard of service, delicious food, and a beautiful view. Totally recommended.
