Astoria, Oregon, served as the filming location for the cult classic ’80s film The Goonies. The coastal city now celebrates with Goonies Day on June 7th every year -- the day the film was originally released.

The Goonies tells the story of a group of kids who need to quickly raise funds to prevent their families' displacement for the construction of a new golf course. When they discover a map leading to One-Eyed Willy's hidden treasure, they set off on an adventure.

Gonnies Day and Weekend Festivities

Goonies Day is actually a multi-day affair, typically the weekend closest to June 7th and features treasure hunts, events at the Oregon Film Museum,  screenings of The Goonies film, discounted zip lining, trivia events, and even some "Truffle Shuffle fan gatherings." The Truffle Shuffle is a belly shake made famous by Chunk, a character in the film, and fans are encouraged to let loose.

In the past events included a tour of the Goonies house, a private residence. However, fans are no longer allowed to get close to this residence and are encouraged to view the house from the Astoria River Walk and other viewpoints in the area.
