If you're a music lover visiting New York City in the summer, there's no shortage of great concerts and musical performances across the city. However, one of the best ways to start your morning with music it to attend one of the Central Park concerts sponsored by "Good Morning America."
On Friday mornings from late May through the end of August, this morning TV show holds its Summer Concert Series, which features big-name artists from around the world starting off the day with a quick set of popular tracks.
How to Attend
These live performances take place at Rumsey Playfield in New York City's Central Park from 7 to 9 a.m., and artists usually perform three or four songs. Access to the concerts is free and open to all ages on a first-come, first-served basis—as space allows. The concerts are open to walk-ups, but to ensure a spot, guests can reserve free tickets at 1iota.com.
To attend, arrive at Central Park when it opens to the public at 6 a.m., and report to the corner of the East 72nd Street entrance on Fifth Avenue. From there, you'll be directed toward the concert area at Rumsey Playfield by a staff member holding a "1iota" sign.
What to Bring
Since the "Good Morning America" Summer Concert Series events take place first thing in the morning on Fridays, you should prepare for your day of touring the city before you set out for the day. However, there are also some essential things you should bring so you make the best out of your experience:
- Water to stay hydrated
- A hat to shield yourself from the morning sun
- Sunglasses to protect your eyes
- A camera to capture the memories
- Comfortable shoes since you'll be on your feet for hours
- Raingear since the concerts take place rain or shine
- Patience since there is a lot of waiting
Before you attend a summer concert in Central Park, also be sure to check out the Good Morning America Summer Concert Series official website for more details on location, performers, and advance ticket availability.
