This map shows an overview of the Georgetown neighborhood in Washington, D.C., and provides driving directions and transit options. Georgetown is north of the Potomac River just across the Francis Scott Key Bridge. The main thoroughfares are M Street NW and Wisconsin Avenue NW. The neighborhood extends from Georgetown University to the west to Rock Creek and Potomac Parkway to the east to Montrose Park and Oak Hill Cemetery to the north. Georgetown is an interesting part of town and a great place to take a walking tour, enjoy some shopping, try some new restaurants, and more.

Directions and Transportation Options to Georgetown

By car: From the George Washington Memorial Parkway, follow the Parkway and exit onto Key Bridge toward Washington, D.C. Cross the bridge and turn right onto M Street.

There are several parking garages and surface parking lots. Street parking is also available, but it can be hard to come by because the area is popular with both locals and tourists. Parking fees can run about $20 if you'll be spending the day here.

By Metro: Georgetown is not so Metro-accessible. The closest Metro station is Foggy Bottom-GWU, which is about a 15-minute walk. From the station, follow Pennsylvania Avenue heading northwest to M Street NW. Follow M Street to the heart of Georgetown.

By bus: Avoid parking fees and traffic jams by taking the DC Circulator Bus using the Georgetown-Union Station or the Dupont-Georgetown-Rosslyn lines. The Circulator is inexpensive and an easy way to get around parts of the city.

By bicycle: An alternative way to get to Georgetown is by Capital Bikeshare. The program allows you to check out and return a bike from any of the nearly 450 stations located throughout Washington, D.C., and Arlington, Virginia. The Georgetown Bikeshare kiosks are at

  • The corner of K and 30th streets near the Georgetown waterfront
  • 31st Street NW at Whitehurst Freeway NW
  • Near Key Bridge on Whitehurst Freeway NW
  • M Street NW at Potomac Street NW
  • Wisconsin Avenue at Grace Street
  • Wisconsin Avenue NW at O Street NW
  • Georgetown University campus.

By water taxi: You can also get to Georgetown's Washington Harbour by water. The Potomac Riverboat Company offers a few water taxi options between Georgetown, the Wharf, and Alexandria.

This detailed Georgetown map shows its most popular areas. On the south end of the neighborhood, Georgetown Waterfront Park runs along the Potomac River and Washington Harbour sits adjacent to it to the east. You'll find a variety of waterfront restaurants here. Just to the north is the Chesapeake and Ohio Canal (the historic waterway begins in Georgetown and runs 184.5 miles to Cumberland, Maryland). The main shopping and dining thoroughfares are M Street and Wisconsin Avenue. There are also many interesting small streets and alleys to explore. This part of the Washington, D.C., area has plenty of historic sites, live entertainment, and opportunities for outdoor recreation.
