The LGBT (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender) community in Reno might be relatively small when compared with coastal enclaves, but that doesn't mean there are cool and friendly places to hang in the Reno/Tahoe area. These four are keeping the drinks coming in a welcoming atmosphere.
The 5 Star Saloon has been welcoming gays and lesbians in Northern Nevada since 1971 and was named that area's best gay hang out by the Reno News & Review. On the weekends the bar turns into a dance club, complete with DJs, dance floor, stage, cage and dancer poles. Sunday nights mean open mics and drink discounts. The bar puts on changing nightly events like a Divas Tribute Night and Wine Walk and hosts karaoke on Wednesday and Thursday nights.
The Cadillac Lounge calls itself Reno's alternative, open bar. It lands right in that space between a dive joint and a classy cocktail bar. The bartenders get creative with their own drink specials and welcome all to their barstools. A jukebox (digital) is a fun throwback to another time, and the place attracts a varied bunch that includes drag queens, blue-collar types, and hipsters. The lounge hosts cookouts, pool tournaments, karaoke and drag shows. You just never know what you are going to find at the Cadillac.
The Patio Bar is for those over 21 only. It's got darts, pool, a jukebox, and karaoke Tuesday through Saturday. Check out the covered deck in nice weather at this well-established Reno gay bar.
Carl's The Saloon calls itself the Gay Community Center that just happens to serve alcohol. It sponsors special events, like fundraisers to fight AIDS, beer busts, and Pride bashes. But on regular days, it's a friendly bar for locals with pizza, pool and great adult beverages.
