If you've found this page, you're probably trying to find out if Gaston County Schools in North Carolina are closed for a snow day. That's about the only "inclement weather" we get around these parts - snow and ice. Fortunately, you're in luck though, because there are plenty of ways to find out Gaston County School status. Here is a list of some of the best resources to use, including television stations, newspapers, and radio stations. This list will be useful for Gaston County Schools, as well as if your child attends a private school in Gaston County or a school that's not a part of the Gaston County School System.
Those schools usually use these resources to list their closings as well.
If you're checking the listings in the evening, be sure to pay close attention to the date (meaning, make sure that if it says your school is closed, it says it's for the next day). Many times, these lists aren't updated in the evening, and the closing that you think is for tomorrow was actually today's.
The official Gaston County Schools web site is most likely the best and most up to date source for Gaston County School closings. A decision to close schools or to consider a delayed schedule will be announced by 6 a.m each morning. You can also check Gaston County Schools' Facebook page, as the information will be published there first (and that's simply where everyone is now, so it's easiest to share information that way).
Watch these Charlotte area television stations or check their websites:
Listen to these radio stations that say they'll be making regular announcements of closures:
960 WZRH - Dallas 1030 WNOW (Spanish)
1050 WLON - Lincolnton
1110 WBT - Charlotte
1270 WCGC - Belmont
1390 WADA - Shelby
1420 WGAS - Gastonia
1450 WGNC - Gastonia
1540 WOGR - Charlotte
1590 WCSL - Cherryville
If there's no announcement, assume that school is operating on a regular schedule. Should classes for the day be canceled, that also means that any after school activities, including games or practices, clubs, or meetings, are also canceled. The decision to cancel an athletic event is always left up to the home school. If an away team can't make travel arrangements though, those game are almost always rescheduled to a more viable date.
