There are many things to do with kids in the Memphis area. Unfortunately, most of them are geared for the slightly older set -- typically age five and older. So what can you do to entertain your toddler or preschooler? Here are a few age-appropriate destinations for little kids.
Playscape Park is a special area of The Children's Museum just for kids from birth to age 4. The brightly colored area is full of age appropriate toys, props for dramatic play, climbing structures, and equipment for active play. This is not the most economical destination, however, as admission is charged. Infants are admitted free. If you plan to visit The Children's Museum on a regular basis, you might consider a family membership, which covers a family of four.
While The Little Gym is open to children ages 4 months to 12 years, it offers special parent/child classes just for infants and toddlers. The focus at the gym is to promote gross motor skills in young children by using a combination of movement, music, gymnastics, sports, exercise, and games. Membership to The Little Gym is required but most locations offer a free trial class to give you an introduction to the program.
Located just outside of Sears on the first level of the Wolfchase Galleria is an indoor play area for young children who are 48 inches or shorter. The "playground" consists of a playhouse with a slide and tunnels, several pieces of climbing equipment, and wall mounted toys. There is also plenty of comfortable seating for parents. Best of all, this is a free activity and a great destination for a rainy day.
Incredible Pizza is a favorite destination among children of all ages. Fortunately, the folks who designed it had the forethought to create a play area just for young children. This area includes age appropriate climbing equipment and other activities. So if your older kids are begging you to take them to Incredible Pizza, you can relax knowing that your young children will be entertained as well.
