Everyone knows St. Louis is home to the King of Beers, but Anheuser-Busch certainly isn't the only game in town. Schlafly has been brewing up beer in St. Louis for more than 20 years. It's grown to become the largest locally-owned independent brewery in St. Louis, with more than 50 different styles of beer. One easy way to learn more about Schlafly is to take a free brewery tour.

When and Where:
Schlafly offers free tours on Saturdays and Sundays from noon to 5 p.m. The tours are held on the hour at the Schlafly Bottleworks at 7260 Southwest Avenue in Maplewood. Tours available on a first-come, first-served basis. There are 20 spots available per tour. The tours do fill up quickly, so make sure you are early to get a spot.
Note: Schlafly also has a Tap Room in downtown St. Louis, tours are available there on Sundays.
What You'll See:
The Schlafly tour begins with a stop a the "brewseum" and a look at the history of beer brewing in St. Louis. From there, you'll walk through the actual brewery learning about the step-by-step process of creating Schlafly beer. The tour ends with free samples of Schlafly's latest brews. The whole tour lasts about an hour. After the tour, browse through the gift shop or grab a bite to eat in the restaurant.
Things to Know:
There are a couple of other things to know before you take the Schlafly tour.
First, be sure to wear close-toed shoes. For safety reasons, visitors with flip-flops and other open-toed shoes are not allowed in the brewhouse. Second, you can take your children on the tour with you. Everyone under the age of 21 is offered soda at the end of the tour instead of beer. Finally, tours are sometimes cancelled for festivals and other special events.

The brewery tour is just one fun thing to do at Schlafly Bottleworks. The brew pub also hosts an outdoor farmers market every Wednesday evening from April through October.
