Staying healthy doesn't have to be expensive. There are dozens of free and low-cost health resources in and around Cleveland. The problem is that so few people are aware of them. Below is a partial list of what is available.

Cleveland Department of Health

Offers a variety of free and low-cost screenings for Cleveland residents, including TB tests, blood pressure tests, glucose and cholesterol screenings, pregnancy tests, flu shots, and childhood immunizations.

Cleveland Clinic Programs

Offers a variety of wellness programs and health screenings at their main campus and at their suburban facilities around Northeast Ohio. Programs include free blood pressure screenings, hearing tests, healthy heart screenings, pain assessments, and talks on a variety of health issues.

Akron General Hospital

Offers cholesterol and blood pressure screenings as well as health talks on a number of subjects at their campus and around the Summit County area.

Elyria Health District

Provides regular blood pressure screenings at area recreation centers

Acme Markets

Stores in Northeast Ohio offer free blood pressure screenings, senior discounts on prescriptions, and other health screenings.

University Hospitals

Free cardiovascular screenings at Bedford Medical Center, Case Medical Center, and Richmond Medical Center; part of the Dare to C.A.R.E program; screening includes ultrasound of the carotid arteries and abdominal aorta, evaluation of peripheral(leg) circulation, blood pressure and cholesterol check, and cardiovascular risk assessment and counseling; target audience includes anyone over 60 and those 50+ with risk factors, such as a family history of heart disease, high blood pressure, diabetes, and smoking; call 800 440-1982 for an appointment.
