Imagine camping just down the road from one of the nation's top beaches. Imagine stepping outside your tent or RV and casting a fishing line or watching gorgeous sunsets. All that and more is possible at Fort DeSoto Park Campground, where waterfront campsites combine with modern amenities and an endless list of recreation possibilities to provide a paradise for campers.

Campground Accommodations & Amenities

Fort DeSoto Park Campground offers a variety of campsites with different views and amenities, including:

  • 238 campsites total
  • 17 pull-through sites
  • Waterfront sites (along seawall)
  • Pets allowed (in sites 86-164 only)
  • All sites include water, electric with 30 to 50 amp service, picnic table and charcoal grill
  • Modern restrooms with showers and laundry facilities
  • Dump stations
  • Camp store

Paved roads in the campground lead to the campsites. Waterfront campsites are situated along a seawall that skirts the campground's outer banks. Pets are allowed. The pet section is located just inside the park, on the land side.

The amply-sized campsites are made with a gravel bed and most have a small grassy area near the seawall. Mature trees and lush foliage create privacy between sites, but some sites have more shade than others. When you make your reservation online, there is a picture of each site to help make your decision easier. However, don't be too picky and wait too long, while campsites may be booked six months in advance, they are often snatched up and booked soon after becoming available. Some campsites are reserved by the park for walk-ins, but those are often snatched up quickly as well (particularly on Friday nights for the weekend).

Perhaps the only downside to this campground is its distance to the Fort DeSoto beaches and other recreation available at Fort DeSoto. We're talking a couple of miles here. Even the great fenced-in "Paws Playground" as well as a pet-friendly beach are a good distance from the campground. So, if you don't have a car available, then bicycles are nearly a must. Bring your own or they can be rented at the campground.
