Summer in Florida: While Florida is one of the top vacation destinations in the nation, summer travel in the Sunshine State can present some challenges. Use resources to help smooth the way to your mid-summer Florida travel. Temperatures will not reach their peak highs until July and August, but you'll definitely feel the summer heat even with the increasing frequency of afternoon showers. A great way to beat the heat is at one of Florida's water parks. Disney World's Gay Days are held on the first weekend of June. If you have an issue with observing openly gay couples holding hands or kissing in public, then it is best to avoid the parks. Thunderstorms are frequent in the summer but are usually short-lived and help to cool temperatures. If you're at Disney World, break out a poncho or umbrella for summer's showers and enjoy some rainy day magic. If the bad weather hangs around too long, there are other places you can go to. It's important to note though that lightning is a serious risk, particularly in Central Florida. Also, the Atlantic hurricane season runs from June 1 through November 30.
