June Events

Florida Dance Festival: This Florida annual celebration of dance held in Tampa takes place for a week in June. Hosted by the University of South Florida School of Theatre and Dance, the festival features classes and workshops in all forms of dance.

Silver Spurs Rodeo: The largest rodeo east of the Mississippi, draws some of the toughest bulls and cowboys in the business. The two-day event occurs in Kissimmee and just a few miles from Central Florida's theme parks.

Summer in Florida's Theme Parks: Theme parks offer extended hours, roll out special shows, and include concerts by some of music's biggest talents.

Summer in Florida: While Florida is one of the top vacation destinations in the nation, summer travel in the Sunshine State can present some challenges. Use resources to help smooth the way to your mid-summer Florida travel.

Best Time to Go

Lunch lines at school are replaced by lines at the popular theme parks as families begin their summer vacations. Temperatures will not reach their peak highs until July and August, but you'll definitely feel the summer heat even with the increasing frequency of afternoon showers. A great way to beat the heat is at one of Florida's water parks.

Disney World's Gay Days are held on the first weekend of June. If you have an issue with observing openly gay couples holding hands or kissing in public, then it is best to avoid the parks.

June Weather

Although the peak temperature typically arrives in July and August, it's important to know how to beat the Florida heat in June.

Thunderstorms are frequent in the summer but are usually short-lived and help to cool temperatures. If you're at Disney World, break out a poncho or umbrella for summer's showers and enjoy someĀ rainy day magic. If the bad weather hangs around too long, there are other places you can go to. It's important to note though that lightning is a serious risk, particularly in Central Florida.

Also, the Atlantic hurricane season runs from June 1 through November 30. There is usually very little tropical activity in June. It is important to know how to protect your family and your vacation experience if a storm threatens.
