The Floriade flower festival in Australia's capital city is an annual festival filled with the scents, sounds, and sights of the Canberra spring. With spring in the air and flowers in full bloom, it is little wonder why tourists flock to this patch of Australia every year.

With Canberra’s Floriade taking place for well over a month, there is plenty of time for planning and partaking in the celebration of this enriching festival.

Floriade is a major attraction for many tourists visiting the nation’s capital and after viewing the festival, you can clearly see why. With a variety activities complimenting the stunning scenery, there’s something for everyone during the month-long celebration of nature.

Situated near the flowing waters of Lake Burley Griffin, where vast amounts of flora adorning the parklands, the Floriade Flower Festival celebrates a different theme for each year, making for an ever-changing and unique festival. The Floriade’s aim to celebrate all that is beautiful about Mother Nature is a key aspect of Australian culture.

The 2017 Floriade

The 2017 Floriade Flower Festival runs from the 16th of September to the 15 th of October in and around the city of Canberra.

You can visit and see the sights on a day-trip, or extend your stay to explore the region in greater detail. The introduction of new features for this years’ program is bound to have something the suit everyone throughout the month long festival.

These include activities you may not normally associate with a flower festival – such as the Comedy Cave, a pivotal part of the festivals’ nightlife! With comedians such as Hannah Gadsby gracing the stage, this event is set to invigorate you after a day spent connecting with nature through the Floriade.

By offering a roaring good time for anybody who loves to laugh, the Comedy Cave is an integral feature for the Floriade Flower Festival. Other night features for this glorious festival include tasting sessions alongside stunning displays of flowers incorporating other visuals.

When exploring Canberra’s Floriade during the day, those with canine companions cannot go past the festival’s Dogs Day Out. This is the activity that stands out amongst all the others, simply on account of the incredible amount of canine cuteness that will be on display amongst the scenery!

Getting to the Floriade

If you’re planning to visit Canberra for the Floriade in the spring, driving south on Northbourne Ave should bring you to Commonwealth Park just before the bridge across Lake Burley Griffin. By following these directions, you should come across allocated parking spaces close to the floral displays.

Be sure to book your accommodation and activities well in advance, as it’s a busy time of year and certain areas can become heavily booked.

When venturing out to the Floriade Flower Festival in Canberra, you are bound to find something that speaks to you. Though if nothing else, the sheer beauty of these Australian and international flowers in full bloom would inspire nearly anybody.
