Having been on, and enjoyed, Leslie Padró's terrific Flavors of San Juan Tour, I was happy to discover that Leslie's got a second tour on offer in Old San Juan. The evening starts with a narrated historical walking tour of the old city. After, walk into one of the oldest buildings in Old San Juan to begin your culinary journey at Rosa de Triana, an authentic Spanish restaurant.
Here you'll enjoy a set menu dinner that includes
- Unlimited Sangria (the quintessential Spanish combination of red wine, brandy, sugar, soda water and freshly sliced fruit)
- An array of tapas including gambas al ajillo (sizzling garlic shrimp), fried calamari, chorizo al vino (Spanish sausage), croquettas (fried croquettes filled with mashed potatoes and minced beef or chicken), tortilla (a classic potato and onion "omelet"), and slices of garlic and tomato-rubbed toast topped with olive tapenade.
- After, enjoy a main course of paella (the typical Spanish saffron-infused dish of rice, chicken, sausage, seafood, and vegetables).
- Finish off with a dessert of flan (a caramel custard)
After dinner, grab the best seat in the house for a live Flamenco dancing show with live music. The tour is offered Friday and Saturday nights 7 pm to 8:30 pm, and costs $95 per person.
