First Night Akron

First Night Akron, a New Year's tradition that started in 1996, is a family-friendly, alcohol-free New Year's Eve celebration that features music, art, dance, and fireworks. Held at various venues in downtown Akron, First Night Akron is an entertaining alternative to house parties and bar events.

Entertainment

First Night Akron 2017 festivities begin at 6 pm and end at midnight with fireworks. Musical artists scheduled to perform include Colin Dussault's Blues Project, Alex Bevan, Paul Kovac, Akron Symphony Gospel Meets Symphony Choir and the UA Steel Drum Band.

Venues

First Night Akron takes places at a variety of mostly indoor venues in downtown Akron. For 2017, venues include the Akron Art Museum, Akron Civic Theatre, Akron-Summit County Public Library, Greystone Hall, John S. Knight Center, Lock 3, METRO Transit Center, National Inventors Hall of Fame and the UA Polsky Building. There are a few activities that take place outdoors, like the fireworks displays.

Admission

The price of admission buttons to First Night Akron 2017 is $10 (the same price as it has been for the last five years) and includes access to all events. Children under 10 years of age are free when accompanied by an adult with an admission button. Buttons go on sale Friday, November 28, 2016, at locations throughout the Akron area. Parking, Hotels, and Transportation:

Free parking is available to First Night revelers at a variety of downtown Akron parking lots after 3 pm on December 31.



There is also a free shuttle for First Night button wearers that runs continuously between the venues from 6 pm to 1130pm.

There is also a discount rate available to First Night Akron attendees at the Courtyard by Marriott in downtown Akron. The $179 package rate includes overnight accommodations, breakfast for up to four people, two First Night Akron admission buttons, transportation to the event and late checkout.
