America's State Parks First Day Hikes in New Mexico
Start the year off right at a nearby state park, where rangers will lead guided tours. The First Day hikes take visitors through some of New Mexico's outstanding state parks. Take a water bottle, layered clothing and sunscreen. Check individual parks for details to confirm.
Cerrillos Hills State Park near Santa Fe will have a hike from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m., approximately 1.5 miles. Hike to the Mirador, a great viewpoint, and learn about the Cerrillos hills. Suitable for any age, though it may be difficult for younger children.
Elephant Butte offers a First Day hike. Start at the main park office at noon, and learn about local plants and wildlife.

Have Some Frosty Fun at Hinkle

Enjoy a few hours of fun on New Year's Eve and New Year's Day at Hinkle's. The Fun Center has a miniature golf course and go karts, lazer tag, paintball and a game room. Hinkle's will be open New Year's Eve and New Year's Day. Open noon to 9 p.m. December 31 and noon to 11 p.m. on New Year's day.

Families can enjoy unlimited bowling and shoes, bowl for prizes, and get party hats, noise-makers and party favors. The special includes a munchie buffet and soda. On New Year's eve and New Year's day, the lanes are open from 10 a.m. to midnight. 

Ski Sandia Peak
Yes, the ski area will be open New Year's day and on New Year's eve. With a drive that's less than an hour away, the Sandia Peak Ski Area provides a fun day on the slopes with little time spent getting there. With four chairlifts, a snow sports school, rental equipment, a cafe and a ski shop, there are plenty of options for beginners as well as seasoned skiers. Sandia Ski Area is open with limited terrain. The beginner area, cubby corner, chairlift #4 and the mitey mite are open. There are ski rentals if you don't have your own, and snowboarding runs have great appeal for the tweens and teens. Open 9 a.m. - 4 p.m.

Go Snowshoeing
With several places in town to rent snowshoes and enough snow to land on, what are you waiting for? The Sandias are less than an hour's drive out of town, and have a number of trails where you can strap on your snowshoes and enjoy the great outdoors.

Enjoy a special party on New Year's Eve from 8 p.m. to 12:30 a.m. Admission is $8 and skate rental is $2.

Ice Skate
Ice skate at the Outpost Ice Arena on New Year's Day during the following public sessions: Noon to 2 p.m., 2:30 to 4:30 p.m., 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. and 8 to 10 p.m.

Holiday Bowl
Skidmore's Holiday Bowl will have a family friendly New Year's Eve celebration with dinner included from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. on New Year's Eve. A Noon Year's Celebration takes place at noon on December 31 and includes a cider or champagne toast and a countdown at noon, with party favors.
