In the past, quality New Delhi airport hotels have been scarce. However, the revamping of Delhi airport and opening of the new Terminal 3 has brought a number of reputable hotel brands to the rapidly developing Delhi Aerocity hospitality precinct adjacent to the airport. A transit hotel has also opened up inside the airport terminal. Most of the previously existing budget hotels are situated along National Highway 8, which runs parallel to the airport, in the Mahipalpur area.
There are plenty of hotels near Mumbai airport to choose from but they don't come cheap, as accommodations in the city are unfortunately really expensive. When booking a Mumbai airport hotel, location is important as the airport's domestic and international terminals are situated away from each other.
Bangalore's first airport transit hotel opened in September 2014. This was followed by the opening of the new Taj Bangalore luxury hotel, right opposite the terminal, in December 2015. However, other options for staying near the airport are limited as the new Bangalore airport is located in a remote area. New branded hotels are being built to meet demand, but these will take a while to be completed.
With the completion of the Kolkata airport terminal in 2013 and development of nearby New Town, more hotels are opening up near Kolkata airport. There are some great luxury and mid-range options, although decent budget hotels are limited. Most of the budget hotels near the airport are located on and around busy V.I.P Road. Alternatively, 12 modern retiring rooms opened up in the new airport terminal in early 2016. Don't rely on getting one of these rooms though. Bookings must be made in person or by fax and demand is high.
Chennai airport has retiring rooms for passengers who want to rest between flights. However, they're in high demand and are usually full. As an alternative, there are a number of hotels near Chennai airport that cater to transit passengers, with options for all budgets.
Similar to the new Bangalore airport, the new Hyderabad airport's remote location means that there aren't many hotels nearby. There's a Plaza Premium Lounge Airport Transit Hotel inside the airport terminal and it's the best option for short stays. A luxury Novotel has also opened up between the terminals on the Airport Approach Road. However, decent budget options are unfortunately scarce.
